The Triumphs of Faith - A Work of God in Progress
It doesn’t take much for God to do anything. Dust from the earth. A rod stretched out across the Red Sea. 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread. Spit on the eyes of a blind man. An Only Begotten Son hanging from the cross. Little becomes much in the Master’s hands. So it is with the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. What you look around and see today is a far cry from the humble beginnings that God used to wrought such a miracle.
Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church originated with 25 founding members. The names of those 25 are: Dr. Vapordeal Sanders, Rev. Pat and Ed Sampson, Deacon Bill and Valeda Huff, Louis and Lezlie Taylor, Ken and Dionne Foster, Michael and Richard Edwards, Tim and Janice Hammond, Cynthia and Franklin Meadows, Sam and Bunny Robinson, James and Sandy Brown, Tyrone and Patrice Hughes Alfred, John and Pieta Cooper, Areveda McCoy, and Alfredia Jordan.
The 25 answered the unmistakable call of God to step out from the Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and to begin a new ministry. By faith, Dr. Vapordeal Sanders became the first leader and church moderator, and the first worship service was held on December 21st, 1992 at West River Point. What started as prayer meetings and bible study at the home of Gertrude Meadows soon became a thriving ministry, officially taking the name Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in September of 1993. Reverends Gabriel Lee and Alfred Harris individually stood as interim pastors, providing needed spiritual guidance and ministry. By faith, FMBC formed a partnership with Luther Memorial Lutheran Church on Oct. 3rd, 1993 that allowed FMBC the stability to assemble to worship and hear from God.
By faith, Rev. Albert Gallmon was elected pastor on Sept. 14th, 1996, and under his leadership 9 ministers were licensed and ordained to the gospel ministry. Under Pastor Gallmon’s leadership, FMBC ordained the first set of Deacons on May 17th, 1997. In 1999, Pastor Gallmon led the way for the purchase of the present property in the 3400 block of 4th St. N, and led FMBC in the march from Luther Memorial Lutheran Church to this place, and declared worship here on Mother’s Day, May 11th, 2003. Led by God, Pastor Gallmon led FMBC to partner with the Minneapolis Council of Churches to establish the Center for Families on Dec. 31st, 2004. In February of 2008, Pastor Gallmon resigned as Pastor of FMBC to relocate his family to Tampa, Florida. His presence in the church and community was missed, but God knows best.
By faith, Rev. Dwight Seawood was elected as the 2nd pastor of FMBC on Feb. 28th, 2009. Under his administration, FMBC grew in various ways. Pastor Seawood resigned on Feb. 7th, 2013. By God’s continuing grace and direction, FMBC continued on in the work of God. Pastor Leonard Thompson served as Interim Pastor during this period, and blessed FMBC greatly with leadership and wisdom.
By faith, on October 9th, 2014, FMBC elected Pastor David A. Keaton, M.Div. as it’s 3rd pastor. Under Pastor Keaton’s short administration thus far, FMBC has experienced tremendous spiritual, physical, and financial growth. A new spirit is rising in FMBC along with new ministries designed to further us toward our goal to be pleasing in the sight of God. With each passing year we hold fast to the words of the Apostle Paul, “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him”. FMBC, our story continues….
